2024 Partial Eclipse

I documented this partial eclipse in October 2023 and was mystified by the process of layers of information being hidden and revealed. Earth’s moon, with the help of passing clouds and polarized lens filters, blocked so much sunlight that the eclipsed sun was visible on camera for a short time. The darkness was as necessary to see the object as the light. Because the sun is disproportionately brighter than the moon, more light does not make things more clear – instead the absence of light is what aids our seeing and understanding. It is a cosmic testimony of the importance of seeking equity – an elegant and intelligent example of balancing the needs of the disadvantaged with the resources of the privileged.
